Louis Pau, M.D. was born and raised in Kalapana, Hawai’i. In 1994 his father was losing his battle with cancer and no one could help alleviate his pain. Louis Pau was inspired to change his career as a firefighter-paramedica and enrolled in medical school. He focused his studies on pain management and decided to become an anesthesiologist specializing in interventional pain. In 2000, he graduated from the University Of Hawai’i John Burns School Of Medicine. After completing a one year internship in Hawai’i, Dr. Pau traveled to Rochester, Minnesota to start his residency at the prestigious and world renowned Mayo Clinic. Being away from home and freezing in the harsh winters for three years was difficult, but the memory of his sweet dad’s face ravaged with pain was the motivation he needed to carry him to the finish line. In 2004, Dr. Pau was offered a position in Kansas to become one of four doctors in a growing pain management clinic. Frustrated with the office policies that bound his hands from performing procedures which would benefit his patients, he decided to open his own clinic in Topeka, KS. In 2005, the Pain Center of Kansas was introduced to the capital of Kansas. For seven years, Louis Pau M.D. traveled 175 miles round-trip from his home in Olathe to Topeka to serve and care for his patients with compassion and integrity. He treated everyone who came through his office doors as if they were a family member. Although the practice grew larger than expected, Dr. Pau’s heart remained in his native homeland of Hawaii. He longed to go back home to help the people of Hawai’i. The memory of his beloved dad forged this journey and now Louis Pau M.D. has returned home to Hawai’i to start another clinic, O’ahu Pain Care, to help those in Hawai’i suffering with spine related pain. He has an office in Liliha and another office in Hilo.
He is board certified in the specialties of pain management and anesthesiology.
Dr. Pau currently resides on O’ahu with his wonderful wife and twin eight year-olds. He is active in church and with health education.
